When clicking a website link in Outlook 2007 do you get the following error message? General failure. The URL was: “http://www.somewebsite.com.”. The system cannot find the file specified.
If you get this error, then try this fix. Please note these instruction are only for Vista.
- Click Start
- Type regedit and press enter
- Drill down to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\HTTP\shell\open\ddeexec
- Delete the ddeexec registry key
- Drill down to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\HTTPS\shell\open\ddeexec
- Delete the ddeexec registry key
- Drill down to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL\shell\open\ddeexec
- Delete the ddeexec registry key
- Drill down to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML\shell\open\ddeexec
- Delete the ddeexec registry key
- Close out of regedit
- No reboot required
Now try clicking the link again in Outlook 2007. Problem should now be fixed.

Sorry, I know nothing about registry editing. By deleting the “registry key”, do you mean deleting the folder called “ddeexec”?
Hi Sandeep – When editing the registry we refer to keys not folders. You can see what I mean by right clicking on a key, then pointing to new. It doesn’t list folder but key, amongst other things.
So, yes delete what we call a key, or as you said folder.
I did need to shut and reopen Outlook and Firefox, then it worked fine
