If you are a Microsoft Windows Vista user and your computer is in an infinite reboot loop showing the following error message, “Configuring Updates Stage 3 of 3 0% complete Do not turn off Computer,” try the following fix.
- Insert your Windows Vista CD into your CD-drive, then boot from the CD
- Click on “Repair your Computer”
- Click “Command Prompt” from the recovery choices
- At the command prompt type C: and press enter
- Type cd Windows and press enter
- Type cd WinSxS and press enter
- Type del pending.xml and press enter
- Reboot your system
- Your system will still display the same error for some seconds, then continue to boot correctly

Did this work for anyone? Is this a solution any good?
I have been having this problem with my laptop, thanks for the tip I will try this solution tonight I wish i saw this earlier as I have switched off my lap top and even removed the battery.
YES the solution worked for me. Took only few minutes to fix the problem. Thank you very much.
System restore was showing as disabled and I was running out of options but found this fix, it worked a treat and saved me from a re-install. Thank You!!
Had this on a friend’s laptop. Tried many things including repair from a Vista CD and system restore (also suggested on one of MS’ KB) which failed on all restore points. Used this solution (renamed the file rather than deleted it) and upon restarting, problem solved. Well done. Thanks.
