Apple OS X Lion Now In Mac App Store

Apple has today made available for sale its latest OS X operating system offering, Lion. Apple states that over 250 new features have been added to Lion version 10.7, which include visual and performance updates to many existing programs, along with numerous new features.

Lion is only available for purchase and download via the Mac App Store, which means, you have to already have Snow Leopard installed. The download is rather hefty at 3.49Gb, but the price is a light $31.99.

Firefox 4 Passes Fifty Million Downloads In Ten Days

Firefox 4, released on March 22 2011, has passed 50 million downloads already. Very impressive stats indeed. At the time of writing, Firefox has an estimated 20+% market share globally, second only to Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Intel Identifies 6 Series Chipset Design Error

Chip maker Intel has found a design fault with their 6 Series Chipsets. Intel has stoppeed shipping the affected product lines and has implemented a fix in their design.

Mac App Store Now Open

Apple has opened their long awaited Mac App Store. The Mac App Store is a similar concept to the App Store built into iTunes, but the software that’s available to download and install, is only for your Mac. Like the App Store in iTunes, both free and software requiring payment is available.

To add the Mac App Store functionality to your Mac, a free software download is available for Mac computers that are running Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 or later.

The Mac App store should make searching for, installing new software, or updating your existing software a much simpler task.

Mac OS X 10.6.6 Update Released

Apple has released an update to OS X to bring the version to 10.6.6. Numerous updates and bug fixes are included but the major update here seems to be the addition of support for the Mac App Store.

You can update via the Apple Menu > Software Update. If you have multiple computers, you may prefer to download the 143.59 Mb update from the Apple support site to one computer, and then deploy to your others.
