Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Sells 1.5 Million In 6 Weeks

Tech giant Microsoft is off to a flying start with sales of 1.5 million phone handsets using their Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system since the products release, only six weeks ago.

Microsoft is fighting hard for market share with its main rivals, Apple (iPhone) and numerous handset manufacturers using Google’s Droid operating system.

Consumers are now spoilt for choice in the smartphone market.

Apple Releases iTunes 10.1.1

Apple has released version 10.1.1 of iTunes.

Several bug fixes have been taken care of, along with some new features including:

  • Use AirPlay to wirelessly stream videos to the new Apple TV
  • Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has iOS 4.2 installed
  • Numerous stability and performance improvements

Mark Zuckerberg 2010 Man Of The Year, Worthy?

What is the world coming to? Mark Zuckerberg has been announced the Time Magazine Person Of The Year for 2010.

What has he done for the world that is so remarkable? Saved countless lives, cured cancer or Alzheimer’s disease? No, he created a website, facebook. A phenomenally popular site with over 500,000 users, but however just a website.

Is he really a worthy recipient of such a grand title? According to Time Magazine, yes. According to me… no.

LastPass Acquires Xmarks

Xmarks, the popular bookmark syncing site has been acquired by LastPass, who is the company responsible for the leading cross platform password manager.

A statement from the company said that, “It’s a great opportunity that ensures the survival of Xmarks as the same service that you know and love.”

Xmarks has had a huge uptake globally with 4.5 million users regularly syncing their 1 billion bookmarks and LastPass is committed to keeping Xmarks a free service, which is great news for it’s huge user base.

The LatPass and Xmarks services still require separate installations, but plans are in the pipe to integrate them in the future.

Wonder what the top Google search terms have been in 2010? Wonder no more. Google has published the list.

Firefox 3.6.13 And Thunderbird 3.1.7 Now Available

Mozilla has released updates for Firefox and Thunderbird. The new version for Firefox is 3.6.13 and Thunderbird is 3.1.7.

Chrome Web Store Open Now

Google’s Chrome Web Store is a website where you can search and browse for apps, extensions and themes for Google Chrome.

  • Apps are advanced interactive websites
  • Extensions add functionality to your web browser
  • Themes allow you to alter the look and feel, or design of your web browser

Although only just launched, there are many items to check out. Some are free, but many are paid products.

If you are an iTunes user, you will quickly get the idea of how it works.

WordPress 3.0.3 Security Update Released

The WordPress team have released version 3.0.3 which is a security update.

Google Announces Cr-48 Chrome Notebook Pilot Program

Internet behemoth Google has announced it’s newest venture, a notebook computer running its Chrome operating system.

The Cr-48 notebook is initially only available via Google’s pilot program to allow real world use and testing.

Google says that, “Each participant in the Pilot program will receive a Cr-48 Chrome notebook; in return, we’ll expect you to use it regularly and send us detailed feedback.”

Interested? Bear in mind that Chrome OS does not run normal PC software, instead, it runs web based applications.

Google Releases Nexus S Smartphone

Google today took the veil off its newest smartphone, the Nexus S. This release comes almost a year after the Nexus One smartphone, and is the first Android based device to ship with the new version named “Gingerbread”.

The Nexus S is co-developed by Google and Samsung and, “delivers what we call a pure Google experience: unlocked, unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services and the latest and greatest Android releases and updates.”
