WordPress 3.2 Gershwin

July 4 2011 saw the release of WordPress 3.2, code named “Gershwin”. This milestone release focused on making WordPress faster. The dashboard has had a facelift, and the all new HTML5 theme “Twenty Eleven” makes it’s first appearance, delivering on the promise to update the default theme yearly.

Support for PHP4, older versions of MySQL, and older insecure browsers like IE6 have now been removed.

WordPress 3.2.1 Maintenance Update

WordPress 3.2.1 is now available and is a maintenance release for all previous WordPress versions.

The 3.2.1 update addresses a server incompatibility related to JSON, and also includes fixes to both the WordPress dashboard and the Twenty Eleven theme.

Users of WordPress 3.2 will really appreciate the speed of the newly revamped upgrade feature, which only updates changed or updated files rather than replacing all core WordPress files. All WordPress users are asked update their installations.

The WordPress team have just released version 3.0.5 which is a “security and hardening update” and all WordPress users are asked immediately update. As with any security release, the sooner you update, the better.

WordPress 2.8.5 Hardening Release

WordPress.org has today released a “hardening release” of their popular CMS. This brings the WordPress version to 2.8.5.

All WordPress users are advised to immediately update their sites to the new version. As long as you have version 2.7 or higher, updating now only takes seconds as it can easily be done within the WordPress dashboard.

The new version doesn’t appear to bring any new features, only security related changes. The release article states that:

The headline changes in this release are:

  • A fix for the Trackback Denial-of-Service attack that is currently being seen.
  • Removal of areas within the code where php code in variables was evaluated.
  • Switched the file upload functionality to be whitelisted for all users including Admins.
  • Retiring of the two importers of Tag data from old plugins.

WordPress 2.7 Now Available For Download

The long awaited release of WordPress 2.7 has finally happened. WordPress 2.7 brings numerous changes to the admin interface which are designed to make content creation even faster, easier and more enjoyable.

The list of enhancements to the WordPress 2.7 admin interface is quite comprehensive. Here are just a few that certainly make upgrading worthwhile.

  • Drag and drop “dashboard”. You can now move things around the dashboard making it flow the way you prefer.
  • Easier upgrading. WordPress 2.7 now uses a built in easy upgrade feature.
  • Sticky Posts. Need a post to stay at the top of the page, now you can easily make it “stick” there.
